Sewing Program

The Sewing Program is part of our initiative to bring economic sustainability to the people in Manchay.  The aim of the program to teach participants to sew in order for them to:

  1. sew clothes for their children and families,
  2. find meaningful work in a clothing business or manufacturing facility
  3. begin their own small-business or  sewing school or to train others.

The second stage of the sewing program is currently under way in Manchay and it features:

  • 32 participants, both women and men
  • 1000 hours of instruction & practice in one year
  • certification and credentials for completed program
  • a partnership with CETPRO -Peru

This continuous  sewing program is taught by local trainers,  supervised by Neufeld Foundation staff,  in order to increase ownership of the program and contribute to the local economy directly.

The results of this program to date are very positive. Participants are sewing clothing for their families and friends, some have already  started to make a profit from the learned skills by  offering  alterations services to their neighbours and selling simple clothing items in their community.

Support the sewing program today by sponsoring a student monthly.  Contact us for more information.
