Sewing Program

The Sewing Program is part of our initiative to bring economic sustainability to the people in Manchay.  The participants of the program are able to sew clothes for their children and families,  make clothing to sell at the local market, or even begin their own sewing school to train others.  This program was successfully implemented in Sierra Leone in 2007 and, combined with a micro-lending program,  it brought economic sustainability to most of its participants.

The Beginner Level of the Sewing Program was implemented in Manchay in May 2010, and it featured:

  • 30 participants
  • 2 week intensive beginner training
  • No experience required
  • Graduation certificate & basic sewing kit given to participants upon completion of the program
  • Participants may continue practicing their skills at our facilities

Intermediate Level of the Sewing Program will further train the participants, and it is scheduled for Fall 2010.
