The Neufeld Foundation has focused its initial efforts on South America, in the country of Peru, more specifically in the Municipal District of Pachacámac, in the Community of Manchay.

Manchay was founded approximately 22 years ago with the gradual arrival of Peruvian immigrants from the highlands of the country due to the aggression of the Shinning Path.
- Semi-rural community with a population of approximately 190,000 people.
- 11% live in absolute poverty; 41.7% in poverty.
- 55% of homes are constructed from basic wood and reed with earth floors.
- The homes are not equipped with running water, electricity, drainage, or sewage systems.
- Only 10.8% are adequately employed.
A particular concern for Manchay is the health issues, specific areas of concern are the increasing level of lung problems, water and lack of nutrition especially for the women and children.
The population of Manchay relies on the support of NGOs, the church, and international organizations for daily assistance.
