What We Do
The Neufeld Foundation provides compassionate and cost-effective assistance, regardless of religion, race, gender or socio-economic standing.
We build sustainable communities through the development of Life Resource Centres that become the heart of the community and hold together neighbourhoods, families, and friends.
The Life Resource Centres serve the communities by providing training and opportunities in economic infrastructure, health, education, and financial services in the region.
The Neufeld Foundation works collaboratively with the private sector, public sector, and partnerships, with the full participation of local citizens to lead and facilitate the creation of sustainable communities.
History
Over the last decade a small group of Calgarians developed an interest on the poverty and social injustice that plagues developing countries. It became evident to them that people living in abject poverty need to be empowered and provided with access to basic health, education, social programs and affordable housing, as well as the opportunity to develop economic sustainability. They felt a calling to improve the quality of life of those that live in such countries; the Neufeld Foundation was founded in 2004 as a response to that calling, and it became the vehicle to create partnerships, and lead the creation of Sustainable Communities of Hope.
The vision, mission, core values and strategic plan of the Neufeld Foundation were the result of several decades of research and field experience by Jack and Alvina Neufeld, and other knowledgeable associates. Their work was founded soundly on Judeo-Christian values and firmly anchored in the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.
In 2005, the Neufeld Foundation began work on creating a sustainable community in Bolivia, one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere. This small country has a housing deficit of 750,000 homes, and has serious social, economic, and health problems. The Neufeld Foundation has built strong local partnerships and is leading the development of a Sustainable Community of Hope consisting of a 1,855-home subdivision in Santa Cruz, complete with a Life Resource Center.
In the summer of 2008, the Neufeld Foundation signed a partnership agreement with the Government of Pachacámac, Peru, to develop a Pilot Sustainable Community of Hope in the town of Manchay.
