In January 2015 four local supporters journeyed to Manchay to provide ESL training to six classes of 15 participants. They spent two weeks providing training at beginner and intermediate levels in practical conversational English. They used a variety of teaching techniques including games, pictures, and song to make the learning fun. Christian songs were a big hit with the students, they learned a new song in English each day and sang four of them at their graduation.
In order for young people to be considered for secondary education the Ministry of Education in Peru requires the applicants to know a second language. Our ESL program is designed to give young people a hand up in their goal of obtaining secondary education which will improve their job possibilities and provide them the opportunity to become self sustainable.
